Cerorhinca reai is an extinct auk (Alcidae) from Neogene marine deposits of the western United States, named in honour of a contributor to avian palaeontology. A wing-propelled diving bird, it shared the productive coastal ecosystems of the proto-Pacific with early pinnipeds and large bony fish. Skeletal proportions indicate a body plan intermediate between modern rhinoceros auklets and murres.
Diet & Feeding
Cerorhinca reai was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
