An extinct pigeon from Pisa, Italy, Columba pisana is a herbivorous columbid known from Quaternary fossil deposits of the Italian peninsula. Related to living Old World pigeons, this species contributes to the fossil record of columbiform birds in the Mediterranean region and documents Pleistocene pigeon diversity across southern Europe.
Diet & Feeding
Columba pisana was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
