† Palaeeudyptes marplesi was a large Eocene penguin (Sphenisciformes) from New Zealand. A piscivorous seabird of considerable stature, its fossils document the diversity of giant penguins that inhabited southern seas approximately 40–45 million years ago during the early Cenozoic.
Diet & Feeding
Palaeeudyptes marplesi was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
