Waimanu manneringi is a Paleocene stem-penguin from the Waipara Greensand of New Zealand, the oldest known penguin or among the first. Although flightless, Waimanu retained a wing structure more similar to flying birds than to the paddle-like flippers of modern penguins.

Waimanu manneringi was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
