Anthropornis

Anthropornis

†Anthropornis was a giant penguin genus from Eocene Antarctica and New Zealand, among the largest penguins ever known. Standing approximately 1.7m tall and weighing an estimated 90kg, it was a powerful deep-diving piscivore. Its fossils from the La Meseta Formation of Seymour Island provide important data on the early post-Cretaceous radiation of giant penguins.
