Biziura delautouri

Biziura delautouri

Biziura delautouri is an extinct musk duck from Pleistocene or Holocene deposits of New Zealand. This herbivorous or omnivorous anatid is related to the extant Australian musk duck (Biziura lobata) and represents a geographic extension of the genus. Its presence in New Zealand documents the former broader distribution of the genus before Quaternary extinctions reduced its range.
