<dinofyi-dinosaur slug="dromornithidae"></dinofyi-dinosaur>†Dromornithidae ('mihirungs' or 'thunder birds') is an extinct family of giant flightless birds endemic to Australia, known from the Oligocene to Pleistocene. These galloanseran birds — surprising relatives of ducks and chickens — reached up to 500 kg, making them the largest birds ever in Australia. All species went extinct by the Pleistocene, coinciding with human arrival.
Diet & Feeding
Dromornithidae was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
