Arthrodytes andrewsi

Arthrodytes andrewsi

†Arthrodytes andrewsi is the type species of Arthrodytes, an Eocene penguin from Patagonia, Argentina. A mid-sized fish-eating diving seabird, it contributed to the high diversity of early Cenozoic penguins in the South Atlantic region. Named in honor of Roy Chapman Andrews, its fossils from Argentine coastal Eocene deposits help reconstruct the Southern Hemisphere's early post-Cretaceous avian radiation.
