†Diatrymiformes is an extinct avian order encompassing the large flightless birds Gastornis (Diatryma) and their relatives, known from Paleocene and Eocene deposits of North America and Europe. These robust herbivorous or omnivorous birds bore powerful beaks for cracking vegetation. They were among the dominant large vertebrates in early Paleogene ecosystems.
