† Gastornis parisiensis — an Eocene giant flightless bird, the type species of Gastornis, from the Paris Basin, France. Massive herbivore (~1.75 m tall, ~170 kg); once misidentified as a predator but isotopic studies confirm plant-eating. Named for the Paris region. Described by Hébert in 1855.
Diet & Feeding
Gastornis parisiensis was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
