† Pandion homalopteron was an extinct osprey (Pandionidae) from the Miocene of the United States. A piscivorous raptor specialized for plunge-diving, it inhabited North American river and lake systems. Fossils document the deep evolutionary history of this globally distributed fish-eagle.
