Ammosaurus

†Ammosaurus was a small sauropodomorph from the Early Jurassic (~185 Ma) of Connecticut and Arizona, USA. About 4m long, this bipedal/quadrupedal herbivore lived in what is now the American Southwest during the early days of dinosaur diversification. Named by Marsh in 1889 from material found in a Portland brownstone quarry, some researchers consider it synonymous with †Anchisaurus.

After the Triassic-Jurassic extinction, dinosaurs rapidly diversified and became the dominant land vertebrates. Early sauropods and theropods began to evolve larger body sizes.
