<dinofyi-dinosaur slug="ardea-polkensis"></dinofyi-dinosaur>†Ardea polkensis was an extinct heron from Pliocene deposits of Polk County, Florida, United States. A large wading piscivore stalking fish and amphibians in subtropical freshwater marshes, it inhabited Florida's warm Pliocene wetlands. Its fossils from the Peace River Formation contribute to the rich record of Pliocene avifaunal diversity in the southeastern United States.
Diet & Feeding
Ardea polkensis was a fish-eating dinosaur. Piscivores typically lived near water sources and had specialized adaptations such as elongated snouts and conical teeth for catching fish.
