An extinct quail from Portugal, Coturnix alabrevis is related to the common quail (Coturnix coturnix) and other Old World quails of the family Phasianidae. Known from Pleistocene or Neogene Portuguese deposits, this small gallinaceous bird contributes to the documented Quaternary diversity of game birds in the Iberian Peninsula and the biogeographic history of European quail lineages.
