<dinofyi-dinosaur slug="apteribis"></dinofyi-dinosaur>†Apteribis was a flightless ibis genus endemic to the Hawaiian Islands, known from subfossil deposits on Maui and Molokai. A long-billed probing herbivore-omnivore foraging for invertebrates in forest litter, it became extinct following Polynesian colonisation around 1,000 years ago. Its flightlessness evolved in the absence of terrestrial predators in the predator-free Hawaiian Islands.
Diet & Feeding
Apteribis was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
