<dinofyi-dinosaur slug="apteryx-owenii"></dinofyi-dinosaur>†Apteryx owenii (Little Spotted Kiwi) is a living flightless ratite endemic to Kapiti Island, New Zealand, with subfossil records from the mainland. Weighing about 1.3kg, it is the smallest kiwi species. A nocturnal carnivore-omnivore probing soil with its long bill for invertebrates, it was extirpated from the mainland by introduced predators and now survives only on predator-free islands.
Diet & Feeding
Apteryx owenii was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
