<dinofyi-dinosaur slug="aptornis-proasciarostratus"></dinofyi-dinosaur>†Aptornis proasciarostratus was an early or primitive adzebill species from New Zealand, predating the Holocene Aptornis species. Its fossils provide insight into the earlier evolutionary history of this unusual flightless lineage. The species name refers to its axe-like beak morphology, consistent with the powerful digging and probing behaviour inferred for all adzebill species.
Diet & Feeding
Aptornis proasciarostratus was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
