A fossil grebe-like diving bird from Italy, Colymbus portisi is named in honour of paleontologist Ettore Portis. Known from Cenozoic Italian deposits, this carnivorous waterbird contributes to the well-documented Italian Neogene avifauna and documents the presence of foot-propelled diving birds in ancient Tethyan and Mediterranean marine environments.
Diet & Feeding
Colymbus portisi was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
