Cygnopterus lambrechti is an extinct large swan-like duck (Anatidae) from Neogene deposits of Kazakhstan, named in honour of Belgian ornithologist Konrad Lambrecht. A grazing herbivore of the Central Asian Paratethys lake systems, it fed on aquatic plants and grasses in seasonally flooded steppe environments. Its discovery in Kazakhstan extends the known distribution of this genus into Central Asian Neogene faunas, demonstrating broad Eurasian dispersal of this lineage.
Diet & Feeding
Cygnopterus lambrechti was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
