Ducula harrisoni

Ducula harrisoni

†Ducula harrisoni is an extinct imperial pigeon from the Pacific Islands, known from subfossil bone deposits. Larger than most living Ducula species, this herbivorous fruit-dove fed on large fruits in tropical forest canopy. Its extinction, likely following Polynesian settlement and associated habitat disturbance, represents one of many Pacific island avian losses in the Holocene.
