Cyanolimnas cerverai

Cyanolimnas cerverai, the Zapata rail, is a critically endangered flightless rail (Rallidae) endemic to the Zapata Swamp of Cuba. Approximately 29 cm long, it feeds on invertebrates in dense sawgrass and sedge marshes. Known only from a small area, it faces extinction from introduced predators, hunting, and periodic burning of its swamp habitat. Named after Cuban naturalist Carlos de la Torre y Huerta, it is one of the rarest birds in the world.
