† Caccabis is an extinct genus of partridge (family Phasianidae) known from Pleistocene fossil material recovered in France. An herbivorous gallinaceous bird, it fed on seeds, plant matter, and invertebrates in open and scrubby habitats. Morphologically similar to living red-legged and rock partridges, this genus documents the Pleistocene gallinaceous bird fauna of western Europe and may represent a direct ancestor or close relative of partridge species still present in the region.
Diet & Feeding
Caccabis was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
