Charadrius nivosus, the snowy plover, is a small shorebird (Charadriidae) of open sandy beaches, alkali flats, and salt pans across western North America. Weighing approximately 43 g, it is a carnivore of invertebrates gleaned from the substrate surface. Subfossil material is known from Quaternary deposits of the United States. The Pacific coast population is federally listed as threatened due to coastal development and predation pressure.
