†Dromornis planei is an extinct dromornithid bird from Miocene deposits of the Northern Territory, Australia. One of the most massive dromornithids, this large flightless herbivore possessed a powerful bill adapted for processing tough vegetation. Its fossils from Bullock Creek document the climatic conditions and plant communities of Miocene tropical Australia.
Diet & Feeding
Dromornis planei was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
