† Elseyornis melanops — an extinct plover-like bird from New Zealand Pleistocene deposits. Morphologically similar to the extant black-fronted dotterel. Carnivorous shorebird; skeletal features suggest active foraging on wetland margins. Went extinct following human arrival.
