Ameghinornis minor

Ameghinornis minor

Ameghinornis minor is an extinct ratite bird from the Eocene (~45 Ma) of France. One of the earliest known ratites from Europe, it was a small flightless bird named by Mourer-Chauviré in 1980. Known from the Quercy phosphorites, it predates the giant Eocene ratite Gastornis. Its discovery contributes to understanding the early Paleogene radiation of ratite birds across Europe.
