†Apatosagittarius terrenus was an extinct Secretary Bird-like raptor (family Sagittariidae or related) from the Miocene of Nebraska, United States. A terrestrial carnivore that hunted snakes and other small prey by stamping them, it inhabited open grasslands of mid-Cenozoic North America. Its discovery extends the known geographic range of this raptor lineage beyond its current African distribution.
Diet & Feeding
Apatosagittarius terrenus was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
