†Delphinornis ('dolphin bird') is an extinct genus of early penguin from Eocene deposits of Seymour Island, Antarctica. A small to medium-sized piscivore, it inhabited the cool Southern Ocean shortly after penguins diverged from flying ancestors. Its Antarctic discovery underscores the region as a key cradle of early penguin evolution.
Diet & Feeding
Delphinornis was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
