† Eoceornis ardetta — an Eocene piscivorous bird from North America. Possibly related to bitterns or herons (Ardeidae). Small wading bird adapted to freshwater habitats. Known from Eocene deposits; represents the early diversification of wading birds following the Cretaceous mass extinction.
