† Fulica montanei — an extinct giant coot from the Atacama Desert, Chile. Flightless giant adapted to high-altitude Andean lakes; larger than all living coot species. Island-like geographic isolation in the Andes promoted gigantism. Went extinct in the Holocene; possibly hunted by indigenous Andea.

Fulica montanei was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
