† Grallistrix orion — the largest of the four extinct Hawaiian stilt-owls. Flightless nocturnal predator; long legs provided cursorial hunting ability in predator-free Hawaiian forests. Carnivore; extinct since Polynesian colonization ~1000 CE. Known from cave deposits on multiple Hawaiian islands.
Diet & Feeding
Grallistrix orion was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
