† Megalosaurus bucklandii was the first formally described non-avian dinosaur (1824). This 6m, ~700kg Middle Jurassic (Bathonian) carnivore from the Stonesfield Slate of Oxfordshire, England, was originally likened to a giant lizard by William Buckland before the Dinosauria concept existed.
Diet & Feeding
Lithornis celetius was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
