Micrathene whitneyi is the Elf Owl, the world's lightest and smallest owl (~14cm, 40g) of the Sonoran Desert. Nesting in saguaro cavities excavated by Gila Woodpeckers, it feeds almost exclusively on invertebrates including scorpions, which it detoxifies before swallowing.
Diet & Feeding
Lutavis platypelvis was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
