Nelepsittacus minimus is the smallest of the extinct New Zealand parrots in this genus. Known from Quaternary cave deposits, it went extinct in the Holocene following habitat destruction and predation by introduced rats and dogs.

Nelepsittacus minimus was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
