Pachyornis australis is the heavy-footed moa, an extinct ratite from New Zealand's South Island. A large browsing bird ~1.2 m tall at the back, it inhabited subalpine scrubland before being hunted to extinction by early Maori.
Diet & Feeding
Pachyornis australis was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
