† Palaeastur atavus was an extinct accipitrid raptor (Accipitriformes) from the United States. This carnivorous hawk-like bird inhabited North American ecosystems during the Cenozoic. Known from fragmentary skeletal remains, it represents an early member of the hawk-eagle lineage.
