† Caracara latebrosus is an extinct caracara of the genus Caracara (family Falconidae), known from limited fossil material of uncertain locality. Caracaras are omnivorous to carnivorous raptors of the Americas. This extinct species likely occupied open and woodland habitats, scavenging and actively hunting reptiles, small mammals, and invertebrates. Its systematic relationship to the living crested caracara and other extinct Caribbean caracara species informs the evolutionary history of this distinctive raptor lineage.
Diet & Feeding
Caracara latebrosus was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
