Coelurosaurichnus ziegelangernensis

Coelurosaurichnus ziegelangernensis

An Early Triassic ichnospecies, Coelurosaurichnus ziegelangernensis is among the stratigraphically oldest members of this ichnogenus. Named after the Ziegelangern locality, these tridactyl tracks may represent the earliest evidence of dinosauriform bipedal locomotion from the Triassic, predating many known dinosaur body fossils and offering an ichnological window into early archosaur evolution.

Time Period

Triassic Early Mesozoic Era

Coelurosaurichnus ziegelangernensis lived during the Triassic Early period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 252,2 to 247,2 million years ago.

The earliest stage of the Mesozoic Era, following the great Permian-Triassic extinction event that wiped out 96% of marine species. Life was recovering, and the first dinosaur ancestors were evolving from archosaur reptiles.
