†Alamosaurus was a giant titanosaurian sauropod from the Late Cretaceous (~70-66 Ma) of New Mexico, Utah, and Texas, USA. Revised estimates suggest it reached 20-30m and ~70,000kg — potentially the largest North American dinosaur. This quadrupedal herbivore is notably one of the last sauropods to live in North America, having re-colonized the continent from South America.
Diet & Feeding
Alamosaurus was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
Time Period
Alamosaurus lived during the Cretaceous Late period of the Mesozoic Era, approximately 100,5 to 66,0 million years ago.
