†Aquila chrysaetos simurgh was an exceptionally large subspecies of Golden Eagle from Pleistocene Greece. Named after the mythological Persian bird Simurgh, it was significantly larger than modern Golden Eagles. A powerful raptor hunting medium to large mammals including deer fawns, it represents a Pleistocene megafaunal context where raptors achieved maximum body sizes.

Aquila chrysaetos simurgh was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
