Athene cretensis is an extinct flightless owl from Pleistocene deposits of Crete, Greece. This carnivorous strigiform evolved reduced flight capability as an island endemic, a common trend in insular avian evolution. It inhabited rocky scrubland environments and preyed on small lizards and invertebrates before Holocene human arrival.
Diet & Feeding
Athene cretensis was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
