Charmosyna is a genus of small to medium-sized lorikeets (Psittaculidae) native to the forests of New Guinea and surrounding islands. Nectar and pollen feeders, they are equipped with brush-tipped tongues for extracting floral resources. Fossil and subfossil Charmosyna species are known from Pacific island cave deposits, several of which became extinct following human colonisation. Their brilliant plumage and social behaviour make them among the most distinctive of New Guinean parrots.
Diet & Feeding
Charmosyna was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
