A fossil species of Carolina parakeet from North America, Conuropsis fratercula ('little brother') is a smaller extinct relative of the historically documented C. carolinensis. Known from Quaternary fossil deposits in the United States, it indicates that a second parakeet species once inhabited the continent, adding to the now-lost diversity of North American Psittaciformes.
