Cousteauvia kustovia is an extinct diving duck (Anatidae) from the Neogene of Kazakhstan, described from lacustrine sediments of the former Paratethys region. Named in tribute to oceanographer Jacques Cousteau, it was a herbivorous diving duck feeding on submerged aquatic plants in Central Asian freshwater lakes. Its discovery contributes to understanding Miocene waterfowl diversity in the landlocked basins of Central Asia before Pliocene aridification.
Diet & Feeding
Cousteauvia kustovia was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
