Diomedea thyridata

Diomedea thyridata

†Diomedea thyridata is an extinct albatross from Oligocene or Miocene deposits of Australia. Its Southern Ocean provenance is consistent with the modern distribution of great albatrosses. These early Australian fossil albatrosses help document the origins and spread of the Diomedeidae across Southern Hemisphere oceans during the Paleogene and Neogene.
