† Massospondylus kaalae was a second species of Massospondylus from the Early Jurassic of South Africa. Distinguished from M. carinatus by subtle differences in skull morphology, it inhabited the Elliot Formation alongside its congener and numerous other early dinosaurs.

Lanius excubitor was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
