†Archaeocycnus lacustris was an extinct swan from Pliocene lake deposits of New South Wales, Australia. A large aquatic herbivore with the long neck and broad flat bill characteristic of swans, it inhabited ancient Australian freshwater lakes. Named for its lake-dwelling habits, its fossils document the former presence of large swans in Australia before the Pleistocene aridification.
