An extinct or fossil snake eagle of the genus Circaetus from Spain, this Cenozoic raptor is related to living short-toed snake eagles of Africa and Eurasia. A specialist carnivore feeding on reptiles, fossil Circaetus material from the Iberian Peninsula documents the deep history of snake eagle lineages in Mediterranean Europe.
Diet & Feeding
Circaetus was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
