Cryptopsar ischyrhynchus is an extinct starling (Sturnidae) from Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, known from subfossil skeletal material collected from cave and marsh deposits. A medium-sized omnivore, it likely fed on invertebrates, small fruits, and carrion in the humid forests of Mauritius. It disappeared following Dutch and French colonial settlement of the island in the 17th–18th centuries, driven by deforestation, hunting, and introduced mammals. It belonged to the diverse endemic Mascarene avifauna.
Diet & Feeding
Cryptopsar ischyrhynchus was a meat-eating predator. Carnivorous dinosaurs were active hunters or scavengers, equipped with sharp teeth and claws for catching and consuming prey. They occupied the top of the food chain in their ecosystems.
