†Cyrtonyx tedfordi is an extinct quail-like galliform bird from Neogene deposits of the United States. Named in honor of paleontologist Richard Tedford, this herbivorous species was a ground-dwelling seed-eater. Its fossils are closely related to the living Montezuma quail, illuminating the evolutionary history of New World quails.
Diet & Feeding
Cyrtonyx tedfordi was a plant-eating dinosaur. Herbivores typically fed on ferns, cycads, conifers, and other vegetation available during their era. Many herbivorous dinosaurs developed specialized teeth and digestive systems for processing tough plant material.
